A Brief History of Banbury Hot Springs

Banbury Hot Springs is a geothermal hot springs resort located in the Hagerman Valley of southern Idaho. The springs have been used for centuries by Native Americans, and were first developed for commercial use in the early 1900s. The springs are located on the Snake River, and offer a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool, private baths, and lodging.

The history of Banbury Hot Springs is closely tied to the history of the Hagerman Valley. The valley was originally inhabited by the Shoshone and Bannock tribes, who used the springs for their healing properties. In the early 1800s, the valley was explored by fur trappers and traders, who also took advantage of the springs.

In the late 1800s, the Hagerman Valley began to be settled by farmers and ranchers. The first commercial development of the springs occurred in 1920, when a hotel and bathhouse were built by a man named John Banbury.

Banbury Hot Springs continued to grow in popularity throughout the 20th century. Throughout that time the hot springs has had about 6 different owners who all added their own touches to the facility. Today, Banbury Hot Springs is a popular destination for family and friends alike.

The Hagerman Valley is also home to a number of other natural attractions, including the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, the Thousand Springs State Park, and the Snake River Canyon. The area is also rich in history, with a number of archaeological sites dating back to the prehistoric era.
